There’s nothing better than picking your own sweet and juicy fresh fruit from the trees.
Sampling as you go with juice dripping down your arm, sitting at large picnic tables smack-dab in the middle of the orchard and eating a pancake breakfast topped with more fruit. Family, food and fun, sounds like a perfect day to me!
That’s what you get when you visit your local U-Pick Farm. (If you Google U-Pick Farms, you’ll get a listing of links to all states). Apple Annie’s, a two-hour drive from our home, is old-fashioned fun and a great week-end activity for the entire family.
During this 14th annual Peach Mania, we took a wagon ride, sampled dozens of peach products, explored the gift shop, sat in the shade of the orchard to enjoy a huge slice of pie with ice cream (that was after the pancakes) and best of all chatted with so many other peach-picking people and their kids.
Annie, herself was out front, along with Carmel Corn Man (he greets you with a handful of the crunchy stuff as soon as you enter).
Annie’s daughter Mandy manages the pie shop, Cindy, (sister-in-law) runs the gift shop, and her daughter manages the produce stands on the vegetable side, well, you get the idea, this is a family run operation and if you know anything about me, you know I support this type of business wholeheartedly.
Ingredients:
- Fresh peaches
- Cannoli Cream
To grill peaches, lightly brush the grill with oil, cook until they are heated through and have grill marks. You may cut them in half, quarters or slices depending on your preference. I peeled the ones in the image above with the cannoli cream, but not the peach halves at the bottom of the page, it’s up to you.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
It was a fun and filling day for everyone!
After our fill of peaches, we headed over to the vegetable farm and picked a few eggplant, zucchini, and peppers.
Roasted veggies for dinner …
…and more grilled peaches! (try them with the Cannoli Cream or vanilla gelato).
